Invite and Invest…Really?

Recently, a man named Chuck approached me at Men Step Up, “Hey, the guys at my table said that I need to talk to you about sharing with the group at some point. They think I have something to say.” Several weeks later, he shared this with the group… Lie: We need to invite more people to church. He explained that his accepted method of furthering the kingdom of God was inviting folks to church in the hope that the pastor nails it that Sunday…Invest and Invite…that’s my job.

Well, how does that line up with truth? Jesus put it plainly in Matthew 28… And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”   [Matthew 28:18-20]

Jesus said nothing about relying on the pastor to nail it. He said – Go! He meant, “you go!” So, God began to work on my thinking about this whole DISCIPLESHIP thing. Once again, He began to break it down for me so I could understand Him better.
