Go Make Disciples

Posted: March 10, 2015 in Discipleship, Jesus

So, Jesus meets all His guys on a mountain and gives them the critical success factors, meaning “I’m seemingly leaving and here’s what I want you guys to do.” He tells them to go make disciples.” In other words, “You guys are my disciples, so in your going, whatever you’re doing, perpetuate more of you. Go duplicate yourself.”

He continues by telling them to baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” This has little to do with church membership or even baptism itself. I believe He’s saying to “immerse or wash them in Us…my Father whom I’ve depended upon during my entire 33 years here, Me who you guys personally know and love, and the Holy Spirit whom I’ve told you I’m about to send to be your helper and provide power.”

Then, this is the part that I never really understood until now. He tells his guys to teach them to observe all that I commanded you.” Teaching to observe is much different than just teaching. I think we are oozing with teaching after teaching and spend far too little time applying what we know. I call it death by teaching.

Here, I believe Jesus is saying, “help them learn to observe the truth that I showed you, because it works. You are a result of that truth, you know it works…first hand.”

He ends with my favorite part, lo I am with you always even to the end of the age.” Making Disciples is not a solo act. He’s actually going to be doing it by His power in and through us.
